One of the South Texas region’s most recognizable ports recently celebrated a milestone anniversary as it enters its second century of operation.
On Sept. 14, the Port of Corpus Christi officially celebrated its 100-year anniversary since it commenced operations in the early 1920s.
According to a social media post from the Port, the Port of Corpus Christi was established as a port authority in 1922 and officially began operations in 1926. To date, it has grown into the third-largest port in the United States in total tonnage and the nation’s leading export gateway for crude oil as well as a top exporter for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG).
“The Port of Corpus Christi has been a catalyst for opportunity, a gateway to the world and a reflection of the vision and determination of the people who built it,” the Port said in a statement celebrating the anniversary. “Today, we celebrate not only one hundred years of operation, but also a century of connection, growth and progress.”
