Perry Green, 46, was indicted on Sept. 2 on charges of kidnapping and attempted carjacking. Green, who has been in Harris County custody since May, was arrested Tuesday and transferred to federal court.

He was ordered to remain in custody pending trial on Tuesday morning.

Green is accused of attacking Baleigh Burmaster, a veterinary technician, inside a Texas Medical Center garage on May 11. Authorities have said that Green forced his way into Burmaster’s car and stabbed her at least seven times, while demanding her car keys and credit cards.

Green allegedly bound Burmaster’s hands with zip ties. She managed to escape by using her toes to open the passenger door.

Green fled the garage after Burmaster ran away and found help. He was arrested two days later.

State prosecutors had already filed aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges against Green. The kidnapping charge, which will be prosecuted by the Justice Department, carries a possible life sentence.

Green was given a court-appointed defense attorney on Tuesday. A trial date was set for November, though initial settings are frequently reset to later dates.
