Michelle Obama will be in Fort Worth next month and you can get tickets tomorrow.
The National Juneteenth Museum announced Tuesday that tickets for its event with the former first lady will go on sale Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. The conversation with Obama is part of the museum’s Uniting Voices Speaker Series and part of a 100th birthday celebration for Fort Worth’s Opal Lee, also known as “The Grandmother of Juneteenth.” The event is scheduled for Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Fort Worth Convention Center.
The museum indicated in a social media post that members of its mailing list will have a first chance to purchase tickets before they open to the wider public. Early access will be sent to members’ email inboxes.
Tickets prices for the event have not been made public and the museum did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
“A Conversation with Michelle Obama” will be moderated by Matrice Ellis-Kirk, the chair-elect of the Communities Foundation of Texas. The talk is scheduled to be a two-hour event and part of a wider celebration for Lee that includes a morning ceremony to mark the start of construction at the future permanent museum site in Historic Southside Fort Worth.
The event is a special installment of the Uniting Voices Speaker Series that began in 2023 to foster “meaningful conversations about history, freedom, culture and our collective future,” according to the museum. Author Isabel Wilkerson, literary scholar and filmmaker Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson are among the past speakers.
