AUSTIN, Texas – Texas quarterback Arch Manning has apologized to ESPN reporter Holly Rowe after his reaction to a fake AI-generated video drew attention on social media.
The controversy began after a tense, brief interview between Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and Rowe went viral following the Longhorns’ close win over Ohio State Saturday.
Afterward, a fake AI video circulated online appearing to show Sarkisian hitting Rowe.
The video was not real, but it spread widely enough to prompt more discussion online. Manning laughed when asked about it, adding to the reaction on social media.
On Tuesday, Manning posted an apology to Rowe on Instagram, saying he respected her.
“In my press conference yesterday (Tuesday), I made an insensitive comment about an AI video,” Manning said in his post. “There is nothing funny about it. It’s easy to say I didn’t mean it, but I know my words and actions were hurtful to a lot of people. I do not take that lightly and am deeply sorry for that.
Rowe said she accepted the apology and that they are moving forward.
The incident adds to growing concerns about AI-generated videos spreading quickly online and being mistaken for real moments, especially after high-profile games and interviews.
