Chris Brown is pushing back after Texas lawmakers honored him during his Arlington concert, saying he never asked to be recognized and criticizing one lawmaker who later apologized.

U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett and state Rep. Venton Jones took the stage with Brown during the second show of The R&B Tour’s three-night stop at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, according to the Dallas Morning News, where they presented him with congressional and state legislative recognition. Usher did not appear onstage at the time, though the Congressional Record entry recognized both Brown and Usher.

Shortly after Crockett honored Brown and Usher with an entry in the Congressional Record, the recognition drew online criticism over Brown’s history of domestic abuse.

Jones issued a statement Tuesday, apologizing to his constituents and saying the honor was intended to encourage voter turnout in the November midterm election.

Brown then pushed back on the recognition and said he “never asked to be honored.”

“YALL CAME TO ME WITH THIS! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND,” Brown wrote in an Instagram story posted Tuesday. “I was minding my damn business. My shows in Dallas were already sold out. I ain’t ask to be honored because I knew some s—t like this would happen and (Jones) immediately started tap dancing and apologizing because he didn’t wanna lose voters and support.

“I have a great idea.. how about y’all leave me the f—k alone and let me focus on the fans that spent their money to actually see and support me.”
