Texas’ weather is unpredictable, especially in the last few months of the year. Arlington is looking to equip residents for situations like this with Preparedness in the Park.

The free event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Levitt Pavilion.

“It’s good to take preparations at any point in the year, but September is the reason we hold this event because it’s National Preparedness Month,” city spokesperson Susan Schrock said.

Arlington emergency officials will teach attendees how to make a 72-hour emergency kit, how to create a family emergency plan, how to sign up for wireless alerts and how outdoor warning sirens work.

Schrock said it’s important to be prepared since unpredictable things can happen. Storms can cause power outages, floods and more.

“It’s also a good time to remember to make preparations for your pets, so while you need food and water in an emergency, your pets also need the same,” Schrock said.

Additionally, attendees can enjoy food trucks and an emergency kit giveaway for the first 25 guests to visit every booth and fill out their bingo card.
