SAN ANTONIO – The Eastside Boys & Girls Club could remain open for at least three more months after City Council approved funding intended to help stabilize the nonprofit’s finances.

District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez said in an Instagram update that the city will authorize $350,000, about half of the Eastside club’s budget, as part of the fiscal year 2027 budget approved Thursday.

He said half of that funding, or $175,000, will be available for three months to keep the club open. The remaining money would be available afterward if the organization meets certain conditions.

Those conditions include pursuing grants, reworking its budget, and meeting with East Side residents and community partners to create a long-term vision for programming at the center.

The funding comes after Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio announced it would pause programming at its Eastside Club on Martin Luther King Drive beginning Sept. 30 because of financial challenges. The nonprofit had said it hoped to restore services in the future.

McKee-Rodriguez said he will work with the city’s parks director and city manager to help the facility remain open and continue providing services on the East Side.
