San Antonio children without vision insurance will have an opportunity to receive free eye exams and prescription glasses this month through a foundation created by Dallas Cowboys star Von Miller.
Miller’s Von’s Vision Foundation will host its first Von’s Vision Exam Day in San Antonio on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Boys & Girls Club of San Antonio’s Eastside Clubhouse.
The event, presented by Cowen Law, will provide comprehensive eye exams for up to 100 uninsured children ages 3 to 17 who live in the San Antonio area. It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 3503 Martin Luther King Drive.
Texas-licensed optometrists will conduct the exams, according to organizers. Children who need vision correction will receive two pairs of prescription glasses at no cost through the foundation.
“Clear vision is essential to a child’s confidence, learning, and future success,” Miller said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring Von’s Vision to San Antonio for the very first time and help ensure local children have the eye care they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.”
Registration is open, and appointments will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Miller, a DeSoto native who starred at Texas A&M before becoming an NFL standout, founded Von’s Vision in 2012 to expand access to eye care and prescription glasses for children from low-income families.
According to the foundation, it has provided more than $6 million in eye care and eyewear to more than 11,000 students nationwide since its founding.
Cowen Law is presenting the San Antonio event. Attorney Michael Cowen said the firm partnered with the foundation to help expand access to vision care for local children.
“We’re proud to partner with Von’s Vision and support its mission of expanding access to quality vision care for children in our community,” Cowen said.
Parents and guardians can register their children for an appointment online. The event is open to uninsured children ages 3 to 17 who live in the San Antonio area.
