LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – No. 13 Texas Tech’s showdown vs. No. 22 Houston is not the only game lighting up Lubbock this evening. The Estacado Matadors will try to go 4-0 against the Big Spring Steers, still looking for their first victory of the season.
“They’re a very competitive ball club, they’re going to be hungry, they have talented guys on offense and defense, they’re well-coached, and we just got to go out there and not give them the edge on us,” said Estacado head coach Eric Ward, while speaking about the Steers. “We must go out there and do our job and play sound football and play together.”
The Matadors are off to a hot start this season, averaging 54 points per game during their unbeaten start. In two games, their defense has allowed no more than one touchdown.
“It’s a great start for a young group of kids, but I think there’s a bigger picture involved in this, and I want to make sure that they understand the goal behind it,” Ward said.
Despite its 0-3 start, Big Spring has had no problem scoring. The Steers have averaged 26 points against El Paso Ysleta, Andrews and Sweetwater.
The game kicks off 7 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park and will air on KCBD.com and the Streaming App.
