LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A local paddleboard business is offering an evening event that combines a sunset yoga stretch with a moonlit paddleboard session.
SUP LBK has operated for nine years and now offers the event, called “Flow and Float: Night Edition” at Dunbar Lake.

“It’s such a God-given gift to us that we have the opportunity to experience and we are so thrilled to be able to offer this experience to our community and hopefully get more people outdoors to experience this,” said Velvet Hodges, owner and operator of SUP LBK.
Hodges said Amanda at Soul Yoga came up with the idea this year of pairing sunset yoga with a moonlight paddle.

“Amanda at Soul Yoga came up with the idea this year of doing a sunset yoga and a moonlight paddle. I was ecstatic. I thought, oh my goodness, this is such a great idea,” Hodges said.
Participants on the paddleboards must find their balance, which tests core strength and focus. Organizers said that once paddlers stop fighting the ripples, their flow kicks in.
Hodges said being near water has a therapeutic effect.
“Number one, water is just therapeutic. Anytime you don’t even have to be in the water, just being near water lowers your blood pressure. So that’s always really, really exciting to get our community to come out here and enjoy this beautiful waterway that we have,” Hodges said.
Hodges said the benefits extend beyond mind and body, offering participants a chance to reconnect with nature.
“The teenagers leave their phones and so and they’re usually kind of grumpy when they first start going out on the water with parents but by the time they come in they’re all smiles and they’re all relaxed and they’ve had a great time and the family has had a really good experience together which is so rewarding for us,” Hodges said.
