San Antonio Metropolitan Health District says it updates the dashboard from October to May
SAN ANTONIO – For the last three years, public health experts have seen COVID-19 cases increase in late summer. This year, the uptick in cases came in late August, around the start of the school year.
But the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District’s respiratory illness dashboard, which shows trends in influenza, RSV and COVID-19, does not reflect those increases because it has not been updated in four months.
Metro Health said it does not update its dashboard between June and September because those are the months when, traditionally, respiratory illnesses are low.
“We can’t think about respiratory illnesses as a winter thing,” Dr. Jason Bowling said, a professor of infectious diseases at UT San Antonio.
Though it does not update the dashboard available online, Metro Health remains in communication with local doctors and hospitals about issues threatening public health.
