Tarrant County’s public health department is holding 14 community listening sessions this month to solicit feedback from residents and learn what matters the most to them about their health.
The listening sessions are part of how Tarrant County Public Health creates its community health assessment. These assessments inform the county’s plans to improve the health of its residents.
Tarrant’s most recent assessment took into account listening sessions held July 2022 to January 2023 that saw 183 participants. They answered questions such as what being healthy means to them, what prevents them from being their healthiest and what health-related resources they would like to see in their area. Officials also asked questions about housing, transportation, criminal justice, communication and education.
Public health officials drew takeaways from participants’ answers. Among the findings was that residents wanted to see preventative healthcare resources and improved city services. High costs, accessibility, distance and the need for a higher quality healthcare and service were identified as barriers to peak health.
By asking about these social determinants of health, officials learned how nonmedical factors may be affecting participants.
The listening sessions are free to attend. Participants are required to RSVP for the online sessions to receive the link. At the in-person sessions, RSVPs are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
