A damaged bridge column at the Interstate 20 and Interstate 45 interchange will lead to traffic restrictions this weekend, including a full road closure to conduct repairs.
Westbound I-20 has been reduced to one lane at the I-45 interchange following a collision involving two 18-wheelers that took place Monday afternoon, according to the Dallas Police Department. No injuries were reported, and the Texas Department of Transportation immediately closed down both interstates to evaluate the impact.
An over-height vehicle on southbound I-45 struck the westbound I-20 bridge and damaged several beams, said Kenna Mitchell, public information officer for TxDOT.
The interchange, located south of downtown Dallas near Hutchins, will undergo emergency repairs requiring the full closure of southbound I-45 starting at 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.
Following this closure, more lanes of westbound I-20 are expected to open but will remain in a narrow configuration until further notice, according to TxDOT.
“There are no detours or diversions, and drivers need to either plan ahead for delays or seek an alternate route,” Mitchell said.
