Houston’s brief break from peak summer mugginess will fade Saturday as heat and humidity build ahead of Sunday’s Texans-Bengals game.
Atmospheric moisture will return to Southeast Texas this weekend, pushing dew point temperatures back into the lower 70s by Saturday. Rain chances should remain low, but sunshine and temperatures in the middle to upper 90s will keep the air outside hot and sticky.
Saturday will be mostly sunny and mostly dry across the Houston area, with highs reaching the middle to upper 90s. A few coastal showers remain possible, but most neighborhoods should stay rain-free from morning through evening.
The combination of heat and humidity will make it feel warmer than the actual temperature, especially during the afternoon. Anyone spending time outside should take breaks in the shade, drink plenty of water and avoid overdoing it during the hottest part of the day.
Overnight temperatures will fall into the lower to middle 70s. Skies should remain mostly clear, with only a light breeze at times.
Sunday will bring a similar setup, but with higher humidity and a slightly greater chance of a few showers or thunderstorms. Most areas should remain dry, though a downpour could develop near the coast or during the afternoon.
Sunday’s game-day forecast will be hot, with the most noticeable heat arriving before and around kickoff.
Any storm that develops could bring briefly heavy rainfall, gusty winds and lightning. Most tailgaters and fans should have a dry window, but the heat will remain a concern throughout the game.
The hotter and more humid pattern will continue into next week as moisture returns to Southeast Texas. Daily isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible, especially near and south of Interstate 10 and along the coast.
There is no strong signal for a meaningful cold front anytime soon. Forecast models show a modest chance of a front toward the end of September, but that possibility remains too uncertain to count on.
For now, Houston’s next noticeable taste of fall may not arrive until October.
