A Texas Department of Public Safety motorcycle trooper was released from the hospital, and a woman was arrested after she allegedly hit the trooper with her car Friday night in South Austin.

According to DPS spokesman Sgt. Billy Ray, a Volkswagen Golf struck the trooper’s motorcycle while he was stopped at a red light about 8:50 p.m. Friday on Ben White Boulevard near South Congress Avenue. The trooper was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

Ray said the Volkswagen’s driver, a 28-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated with an open container. The crash is under investigation.
