A $10 billion data center is currently planned to be built in Fort Worth after city leaders approved its 187-acre site plan last month, but the proposal hasn’t been without widespread backlash from the community.

To raise funds to help fight the proposed data center as developed by Black Mountain Power, Movements4TheSoul is hosting an art show on Oct. 10 at Weston Gardens, 8101 Anglin Drive, to spread awareness and raise money for the Fort Worth Environmental Coalition of Communities.

Movements4TheSoul’s Lydia Faith said the goal of the art show is to have visitors surrounded by art that talks about data centers and the power they have to fight them, as well as connect them with the movement against the Black Mountain Power data center.

“We’re talking about water usage, water quality, air quality, health impacts, high utility bills, high water bills,” Faith said about the impacts of data centers, along with noise and light pollution. “Fort Worth already struggles with air pollution and heavy environmental impacts.”

If built, the data center would be located just blocks away from Weston Gardens, as well as next to nearby neighborhoods. It would actually surround one Fort Worth neighborhood. Movements4TheSoul took drone footage to show where the data center would be built and just how close it would be to these residents.

“I think once folks see it’s gonna be this close, it’s going to have impact for generations to come,” Faith said. “It’s insane that Fort Worth is allowing this. Not just allowing but actively pushing for this.”

This is the fourth art show Movements4TheSoul has held to raise money for social causes, with previous art shows being held to send money to impacted families in Palestine and Congo; another art show was held to raise money for ICE out of Tarrant.

So far, more than 80 artists are planned to be showcased at the show, as well as music performers and other activities like block printing. The show will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10. Anyone interested in attending can RSVP here.
