ARLINGTON — There was a stretch in the first half between the Cowboys and Commanders where wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was nearly unstoppable.

Lamb was wide open on three of his first four receptions in the Cowboys’ 37-20 victory Sunday.

When Lamb’s afternoon was over, he had finished with eight catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

His last touchdown of the day occurred when quarterback Dak Prescott sent a fade down the sideline that came up a little short.

“It wasn’t a great ball,” Prescott said.

Lamb adjusted and out-jumped corner Mike Sainristil for the ball, landing in the end zone and sending the crowd into a tizzy.

That pass, the fourth touchdown of the day for Prescott, was No. 249 in his career. Prescott is now the Cowboys’ all-time leader in touchdown passes.

Lamb has caught 37 of Prescott’s touchdown passes. In his career, Lamb has produced 28 100-yard games and has 44 career touchdowns, and he just continues to solidify himself as one of the top receivers in the NFL.

When it comes to the No. 88 legacy, Dez Bryant, who was in attendance Sunday, caught 73 touchdown passes in a Cowboys uniform. He’s followed by a pair of Hall of Famers in Michael Irvin (65) and Drew Pearson (48), who also made an appearance at AT&T Stadium.

And while Prescott is moving up the passing charts in Cowboys’ history, Lamb is surging as well.

“CeeDee was just driven,” Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. “He looked like everything he was doing was a part of his destiny, if you will, about [Sunday]. I think he was out here to show everybody what he means to the Cowboys. What kind of career he’s had. It’s a great way to put that on the cake, and at the same time, have Dak break Cowboy records.”

How do you grade the Cowboys’ win over the Commanders?

Dallas won 37-20 on Sunday in the home opener to improve to 1-1. Tell us how you judge the victory.

What’s sometimes forgotten is how deadly a receiver Lamb is. Last year, George Pickens emerged as an elite receiver, telling the Cowboys and other teams they should offer him a long-term expensive contract.

Article continues below this ad

Lamb already has his money. It’s well-earned after being named to five Pro Bowl teams and one All-Pro selection. Lamb was overlooked in some ways by Pickens’ first Pro Bowl season from 2025.

Pickens was outstanding and, yes, Lamb was, too. Yet, Lamb missed a handful of games with an ankle injury suffered early in the 2025 season. It allowed Pickens to flourish as Lamb recovered.

Now in 2026, with Lamb fully healthy, defenses are pushed to make a difficult decision. Take Pickens out of the game with extra coverage or leave Lamb alone in single coverage.

“That guy, he’s been amazing,” Prescott said. “We’re just getting started. He’s just getting started and so he’s a hell of a player. We started off these first two games with touchdowns; he’s had one in each game and I don’t think he’s going to stop. Just his mindset, his mentality, just where he is in life, it’s only going to get better and I’m excited for it.”
