A chance of severe weather could hit parts of Texas this morning, bringing the threat of large hail and high winds as temperatures potentially dip to 50 degrees.
A second, weaker cold front is expected to push through the Texas Panhandle Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Amarillo office. Alongside the front, meteorologists are warning of a low chance for severe weather with hazards of quarter-sized hail, 60 mph wind gusts, localized flash flooding and an extremely low chance of an isolated tornado.

“Thunderstorms should begin very late [Sunday night], likely after midnight and most of the activity should occur during the hours just before and right after sunrise,” Amarillo forecasters wrote in their outlook. “For the rest of Monday, persistent cloud cover and northeasterly winds will aid in keeping day time temperatures on the cooler side.”
The front will keep daytime highs in the 70s and 80s, with morning lows bottoming in the 50s and 60s. Any chance of severe weather is most likely to hit between midnight and 10 a.m. on Monday, mainly in the northeastern Panhandle.

Looking forward to the rest of the week, meteorologists will continue to monitor a severe storm threat daily with storm clouds remaining in the forecast.
“Chances for rain persist this week across the combined Panhandles,” forecasters wrote. “Chances for excessive rainfall and severe storms will be monitored on a daily basis.”
Other parts of Texas could also see a stormy week, but wetter weather won’t reach everyone. Rain chances are in the forecast this week across parts of West, South and North Texas.
