It’s a happy – and increasingly rare – occasion for an indie restaurant in Dallas to make it to a 10-year anniversary. And burgers? Talk about a category loaded with Texas-sized opinions. All the more reason to celebrate Shady’s in Lake Highlands, which marks the big “one-oh” this week.
Back in 2016, Shady’s launched near the intersection of Walnut Hill and Audelia in Lake Highlands. The aim was always to be a family-friendly neighborhood watering hole, and it succeeded. To celebrate 10 years, they’re running specials all week, making it a great time to get (re)acquainted.
We’ve long loved Shady’s and have put their many Reader’s Choice awards from this publication to the test — it’s passed. Our favorites include the El Shady ($12.50) with chorizo, fried egg and grilled jalapeños. And the Holy Guacamole ($13.95) has guac, cheese, bacon and a garlic aioli. The most popular burger at this location is the Tailgater with two patties, bacon, American cheese, and Shady’s secret sauce.
Shady’s makes most of everything on the menu in-house, including the buns. All-Angus beef patties are hand-formed in-house daily and never frozen. Other scratch-made items include the chicken strips, which are quite popular here. And the milkshakes are amazing, especially since you can add liquor to them. Ever had a caramel pretzel milkshake with rum or vodka? You should.

Shady’s has two other locations: Richardson and Lake Lewisville, with a Shady’s Backyard planned for Far North Dallas later this year (with a 6,000-square-foot patio).
Shady’s Lake Highlands is marking its 10-year anniversary with a different promotion each day from September 21-27:
Monday, Sept. 21: Rollback prices to 2016 all day on either the Shady’s Original ($6) or the Tailgater Burgers ($9).
Tuesday, Sept. 22: 10 wings for $10 all day
Wednesday, Sept. 23: Wildcat Spirit Night; 10% of sales go to the Wildcat Club
Thursday, Sept. 24: $5 margs all day
Friday, Sept. 25: Say “Fry-yay” for a free order of fries with a purchase
Saturday, Sept. 26: Live music by Vic Duncan 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 27: Wear Shady’s merch and get a free order of fried pickles with a purchase.
