Texas women’s basketball cruised to a 100-38 victory Monday night over Louisiana.
The Longhorns are coming off a ranked win Friday over the No. 24 Richmond Spiders and they picked up where they left off. Center Kyla Oldacre came off the bench for a 19-point performance and, the Longhorns rolled to victory over the winless Ragin’ Cajuns.

No. 4 Texas (3-0) had five players in double figures, and while they limited Louisiana (0-3) to 38 points, there is still work that needs to be done, according to head coach Vic Schaefer.
“We’ve got a long way to go defensively, but we’ll take the win,” he said after the game.

The offense is dynamic and the Longhorns’ motion worked well for 62 points in the paint. But Texas’ smothering defense led to 53 points combined from turnovers and fast break points.

“I thought our bigs were good offensively,” Schaefer said.
Oldacre and transfer forwards Teya Sidberry and Breya Cunningham combined for 38 points. But Cunningham’s 14 rebounds helped the Longhorns notch 21 second chance points because no Ragin’ Cajun could out rebound Cunningham or the Longhorns who finished the night with 39 total to Louisiana’s 27.
But there was one part of the offense that was a cause of concern for Schaefer.
“We know we got a lot of offensive weapons… free throws continue to be an Achilles for our team,” Schaefer said.

Oldacre shot 5 of 12 from the charity stripe, contributing to a 64.3% free throw shooting percentage on the night. The Longhorns shot 75.6% from the line last season.
The Longhorns play Texas Southern on Sunday next and with a full week to prepare, Schaefer is not worried about what the Longhorns can do, especially since the season is three games young.
“We’ll get after it in the morning… let’s go dominate,” he said.
