AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced the arrest of Bobby Michael Dennis, age 64, of Jacksonville, Texas, who was wanted for the shooting of a Jacksonville police officer and her K-9. Both the officer and the K-9 are recovering from their injuries.

Dennis, a fugitive on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List, was apprehended on November 5 near Cuney in Cherokee County. His capture involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including DPS’ Criminal Investigations Division, Aircraft Operations Division, Texas Rangers, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, according to a press release from the DPS. Dennis was found in a wooded area and surrendered without incident. He is currently held at the Cherokee County jail with charges including attempted capital murder of a peace officer, interference with a police service animal, and two counts of obstruction or retaliation. His bond is set at $1.3 million.

The Texas Crime Stoppers reward will not be paid for Dennis’ capture. Funded by the Governor’s Public Safety Office, Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of individuals on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted lists. In 2025, 61 fugitives, including 24 sex offenders and 13 criminal illegal immigrants, have been arrested with $41,000 in rewards paid for tips, stated the source.

To provide tips, individuals can call the Texas Crime Stoppers hotline, submit a web tip through the DPS website, or submit a Facebook tip. All tips remain anonymous, and tipsters receive a tip number instead of using their name. The DPS advises against attempting to apprehend these fugitives as they are considered armed and dangerous.
