Ten Fort Worth-area UIL high school football teams are undefeated entering Week 5.
The Star-Telegram ranked them from most surprising to least surprising.
1. North Richland Hills Birdville
Birdville has had a manageable schedule through four weeks but sure has made the most of its opportunities. The Hawks are averaging 46.8 points per game and have outscored opponents by 18 or more in every contest.
That’s a fantastic sign for Birdville, a team that barely missed the postseason last year. The Hawks last made the playoffs in 2022.
Competing at the top of District 6-5A Division I with powers like Highland Park and Richland is a tall task, but keep an eye on Birdville aiming for a playoff spot. The Hawks are set to face Carrollton Smith on Friday at Birdville FA/AC.
2. Mansfield Timberview
Timberview had already started its upward trajectory last season. Now, the Wolves’ rapid growth has taken shape faster than many imagined, as they’ve established themselves as one of Texas’ top Class 5A Division II programs.
In what was arguably the most impressive win from a Fort Worth-area football team this season, Timberview took down area power Denton Ryan and has scored 60 or more points in three of four contests. On Friday, the Wolves will face Midlothian Heritage in what could start a run to the District 7-5A Division II title.
3. Keller
Keller has been off to a fantastic start, scoring 51.5 points per game. Now, it’s time to see if the Indians can keep the same pace for the rest of District 4-6A play.
Keller faces Fort Worth Boswell in a road game Friday. After that, a very tough challenge awaits against Trophy Club Byron Nelson. The Indians are already one win away from matching their 2025 total.
4. Arlington Martin
Martin is looking to make it back to the postseason after two years away, and so far, the Warriors are on track to make it happen.
A 60-point performance against Weatherford showcased the offense’s firepower. Now, the Warriors have an opportunity to challenge an area power in 12-time state champion Aledo on Friday at Tim Buchanan Stadium.
Aledo will carry a 136-game district win streak into the 3-6A contest. It’s a tough task, but Martin can showcase its growth and talent against one of the area’s best. With Aledo’s shaky start, anything is possible.
5. Decatur
Decatur’s 3-0 start isn’t too surprising, as the Eagles have been favorites in all contests. Scoring 71 points in a shootout with Wichita Falls Memorial, however, shows some of the grit they’ve developed.
Decatur will likely stay undefeated until the last two weeks of the regular season, when they face Springtown and Alvarado, two squads that have historically provided tough competition.
6. Fort Worth Carter-Riverside
With wins over Dallas Jefferson, Venus and Lake Worth, Fort Worth Carter-Riverside is 3-0 for the first time since 2023. It’s been a manageable schedule that should get more challenging.
Carter-Riverside may have its toughest test of the season in Eastern Hills on Friday at Farrington Field.
7. North Crowley
North Crowley has been a favorite in every game it’s played, yet staying undefeated through four weeks of a grueling schedule packed with state powers is still a significant accomplishment.
The Panthers have taken down Aledo, Southlake Carroll, Humble Summer Creek and Duncanville – that’s one stellar resume one month into the season. On top of that, the wins have been strong, and it seems the squad still has room for improvement. That’s a scary sign for all of Texas.
Next up, the Panthers will face Crowley on Friday, and in Week 6, will face No. 1 Waxahachie in a matchup that could decide the District 11-6A championship.
8. Fort Worth Wyatt
After winning a share of the district title in 2025 alongside Arlington Heights, Wyatt has been an underrated Class 5A squad. The Chaparrals looked strong against Paschal to start district play.
Wyatt will face Trimble Tech on Friday at Clark Stadium. After that, the Chaparrals will face White Settlement Brewer in a high-stakes matchup that could shape the district title and playoff races.
9. Fort Worth Arlington Heights
Fresh off making it past the area round for the first time since 1973, the Yellow Jackets have another talented team under head coach Curtis James.
To stay undefeated, Heights took down solid Mansfield Legacy and Alvarado squads. The Jackets are averaging 52.5 points per game.
Heights is set to face a rising South Hills squad Thursday at Clark Stadium. The biggest threats to its undefeated streak are likely White Settlement Brewer and Wyatt in District 4-5A Division I play.
10. North Richland Hills Richland
The expectation was for Richland to be undefeated heading into Week 5, and the Royals delivered.
Colleyville Heritage has been the toughest challenge so far, and Richland was able to take care of business 47-29 against a quality opponent. Next up, the Royals face Carrollton Creekview, and in Week 6, will face Highland Park in a matchup expected to decide the District 6-5A Division I title race.
