HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – The Connecticut Sun will play their final game in the state Thursday night before relocating to Houston for the start of the 2027 WNBA season.
The team has been in Connecticut for 24 seasons. The franchise spent its first four seasons as the Orlando Miracle before relocating in 2002.
The Sun has a record of 460-375, made the WNBA playoffs 16 times and reached the finals in four of those appearances. Unfortunately, they were not able to bring home any silverware for their efforts.
They averaged more than 8,000 fans per game at Mohegan Sun Arena, which holds 9,000 patrons. The team’s average attendance ranked in the lower half of the WNBA, a difference attributed to larger markets such as New York, Las Vegas and Phoenix playing in bigger arenas.
The Sun’s new home, the Toyota Center, holds 18,000 for basketball.
They will play their final game at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. against the Toronto Tempo. Tickets remain available, but may be sparse.
