Forty people were arrested on drug-related charges after a nine-month investigation targeting suspected drug trafficking in Gonzales County, authorities said.

The operation, dubbed “Street Sweeper,” resulted in more than 50 felony charges and the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine and other controlled substances, according to the Gonzales Police Department.

Gonzales Police Chief Gayle Autry requested assistance from the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office in response to what he described as the county’s growing narcotics problem.

Investigators from the three agencies worked with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s West Texas District Office to identify people accused of supplying narcotics in Gonzales and throughout Gonzales County.

Autry called it the most successful narcotics investigation in Gonzales County history, citing the agencies’ limited resources and the collaboration among local, county and federal investigators.

He also credited the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance and said prosecutors are preparing to move forward with the cases.

Anyone with information about narcotics activity is asked to contact Greater Gonzales County Crime Stoppers at 830-672-8477 or submit a tip anonymously through the P3 app.
