A married couple were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a Grand Prairie home Sunday night after a relative requested a welfare check, police said.

The family member who called had not heard from the couple for an extended time, police said in a news release. When officers arrived at the home in the 400 block of East Tarrant Road about 6:30 p.m., they found the woman with a gunshot wound and the man with what looked like a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said Grand Prairie medics pronounced both the man and woman dead at the scene.

“Investigators are treating this as a family violence murder-suicide,” police said in a statement.

The couple will be identified by the Dallas Medical Examiner’s Office after their next of kin have been notified.
