Victor Wembanyama is such a physical freak of nature that he’s apparently grown two inches ahead of the 2025-2026 NBA season. At least, that’s what the San Antonio Spurs are telling the rest of the league – and podcaster Bill Simmons is not buying it.

When the Spurs listed the Frenchman at 7’5″, Simmons viewed it as progress for the respected organization, as it “finally” revealed Wembanyama’s actual height, which he had claimed in March was 7’7″.

“By the way, congrats to the Spurs for finally admitting he’s 7’5”, he said on the Bill Simmons podcast. “It’s just little baby steps until everyone admits he’s 7’6″, which he actually is. But at least we’re going with 7’5″ now.”

How tall really is Victor?

After Wembanyama detailed his unique offseason to the media, reports revealed that he not only gained significant muscle but also apparently increased in height, sending shockwaves across the league. ESPN’s Michael Wright reported on Sept. 30 that Wemby was officially listed at 7’4″, an inch taller than his height last season of 7’3″.

Then a week into October, just ahead of the preseason, the Spurs updated their roster again, listing Victor another inch taller at 7’5″ on their official website. With this height, he is officially the tallest active player in the league, surpassing Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey, who stands at 7’4″.

However, AP Sports’ Raul Dominguez Jr. recently debunked these rumors, reporting that the Spurs made an error on the website and that Wembanyama is still 7’4″.

On Oct. 8, Dominguez replied to a post on X (formerly Twitter) with a screenshot of the team’s preseason lineup for their game against the Miami Heat, where Wemby’s allegedly accurate height was stated. As of the time of writing, the organization has not updated the All-Star center’s height on its website.

NBA’s “height liars”

For Simmons, Wembanyama is part of his “height liars” club, which prominently features all-time great Bill Walton and modern NBA legend Kevin Durant. There’s been no evidence that the 7’2″ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has lied about his height, but Walton set the record straight on the Dan Patrick Show in 2020.

“Kareem always lied, Bill Walton always lied, Durant is another height liar,” he said. “These height liars know who they are. Kevin Durant is at least 7’1. What does he say he is? Like 6’10?”

As for KD, his real height remains a mystery. Ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, people were convinced that Durant was 7’0″ or at least 6’11” or 6’10” after a Team USA group photo that showed him standing beside the 7’0″ Joel Embiid went viral.

However, Durant stubbornly claimed on “The Up & Adams” show in 2024 that he’s just 6’9″. But then again, the forward once admitted in 2016 that he “likes messing with people” about this topic, so take his words with a grain of salt. Currently, Kevin is listed at 6’11” in the Houston Rockets’ official roster.

Wembanyama’s real height hasn’t been confirmed at the moment — as far as we know, he still stands at 7’5″. However, the preseason provided a glimpse into what Victor has in store for the 2025-2026 season: improved playmaking skills, increased strength, and newfound maturity. Wemby’s height should be the least of Simmons’ and everyone’s worries.
