Week 5 of the Texas high school football season is here.

Check out the Star-Telegram’s five games to watch:

Arlington Martin at Aledo, 7 p.m. Friday

For the past two seasons, Denton Ryan has severely threatened Aledo’s district winning streak. The Bearcats rallied from a 14-2 deficit last season to escape with a 15-14 win. In 2024, Aledo had to overcome a 19-point Ryan lead before storming back to win 42-27.

Now that Aledo (2-2 overall, 1-0 district) has moved up to Class 6A, is there anyone in District 3-6A that can knock off the Bearcats and end the nation’s longest string of consecutive district wins, currently at 136? Arlington Martin (4-0, 1-0) might just give Aledo its toughest test in a district game this season.

Aledo started 0-2 on the season, getting thumped 26-0 by No. 3 North Crowley before losing to Waco Midway 28-21, but the Bearcats have bounced back defeating Euless Trinity 31-7 and blasting Granbury in the district opener, 69-0, last week.

Martin opened with a pair of close wins against Mansfield, 38-35, and Flower Mound Marcus, 22-17, but the Warriors have turned it up with big wins over Crowley, 38-21, and Weatherford, 60-17.

Tre Williams had a nice game at quarterback for Aledo last week with 270 passing yards on 13 of 17 passes and four touchdowns. Two of the TDs went to Kane Lanier who caught four passes for 134 yards.

Chase Devoll led the Warriors’ drubbing of Weatherford completing 17 of 23 passes for 213 yards. Wyatt Dorsey had a strong game at running back with 121 yards on just five carries and two TDs.

Keller at FW Boswell, 7 p.m. Friday

District 4-6A play continues with two of the early leaders squaring off as Keller (4-0, 1-0) visits Fort Worth Boswell (3-1, 1-0). Keller’s offense continues to roll as the Indians have scored 55 points in three of four games this season.

Running back Blake Dyniewski has rushed for 712 yards already (178/game) with eight touchdowns. Dyniewski had 273 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns against Keller Timber Creek last week.

Matt McCroskey has completed 77% of his passes this season for the Indians and has amassed 896 yards (224.0/game) through the air with 12 touchdowns. Cash Erdmann, who had 142 yards on three catches last week, and Chris Hanson are the main targets for McCroskey.

Boswell has rolled up some points as well this season behind quarterback Djmarques Vigil, who has averaged just under 200 yards passing per game including a 222-yard (8 of 16) performance with three TDs last week.

Chance Lassiter had 100 yards on three receptions and 22 carries for 93 yards on the ground for the Pioneers.

FW Chisholm Trail at Azle, 7 p.m. Friday

Two teams that have high hopes for a playoff berth from District 3-5A Division I square off on Friday as Azle (3-1) hosts Fort Worth Chisholm Trail (2-2) to start district play.

Quarterback Auston Morgan has thrown for 1,070 yards so far this season (267.5/game) with 13 touchdowns. Brayden Combs is Morgan’s favorite target with 42 catches for 590 yards and eight TDs, including an eight reception night for 147 yards and a pair of scores last week in a win against Nevada Community.

The Hornets spread the rushing yards around with Mason Dixon, Kaden Hass (12-114 last week) and Morgan. Chisholm Trail has had a bit of a roller coaster season thus far dropping the season opener to Midlothian, taking a couple of comfortable wins over Mesquite and Arlington Seguin and losing a shootout with Wichita Falls Memorial.

The Rangers have been balanced on offense so far piling up 226.3 yards per game through the air behind quarterback Keaton Rose and 264.3 yards per game on the ground with Xavier Rodriguez leading the way with 182.5 yards per game and 10 touchdowns.

Tavion Franklin (24-389, 4 TDs) and Montez Roberts (20-319, 2 TDs) are the top receivers for Chisholm Trail.

Lucas Lovejoy vs. Colleyville Heritage, 7 p.m. Friday at Mustang-Panther Stadium

Colleyville Heritage (2-2) will have its hands full to start District 3-5A Division II play as the Panthers host state-ranked Lucas Lovejoy (4-0) who come in at No. 9 in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 5A DII Top 10 rankings.

Both of Colleyville Heritage’s losses have come to state-ranked teams in 5A DII No. 2 Anna (49-31) to open the season and to 5A DI No. 9 North Richland Hills Richland (47-29) last week.

The Panthers like to throw the ball behind quarterback Lane Vargas who has thrown for 1,250 yards (312.5/game) and 12 touchdowns this season. Receivers Trevi Preische (34-588), Sameer Johnson (23-24) and Lucas Sunwall (22-331) make it difficult for defenses to key on one player while senior Gabriel Bess handles much of the rushing load.

Lovejoy, which is led by former Southlake Carroll legendary coach Todd Dodge, has cruised to three easy wins before the Leopards survived Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal 30-28 last week on a Hail Mary as time ran out.

The Panthers will have to try to slow down an offense that has averaged over 530 yards per game behind quarterback Nixon Slaughter, running back Luke Gahan and receiver Coleman Reaugh.

FW Eastern Hills vs. FW Carter-Riverside, 7 p.m. Friday at Farrington Field

Coach David Lara will see how far his Eagles have come after hosting Fort Worth Eastern Hills (2-1) on Friday to open District 5-4A Division I play. Carter-Riverside (3-0) lost to the Highlanders 38-14 last season, but this season could be different after the Eagles ended a 30-year playoff drought a year ago.

The Eagles depend on the run with sophomore running back Bobby Fields handling most of the touches (52-610), averaging 203.3 yards per game with 11 touchdowns. Another sophomore running back, Jon Montes, will also see plenty of action.

Eastern Hills likes to run the ball as well behind Christopher Johnson who averages 163.7 yards per game and has 11 touchdowns. The Highlanders won a playoff game for the first time since 1999, surprising now district mate Kennedale 22-17 last season.
