Both Fort Worth Paschal and Fort Worth Polytechnic entered Thursday night’s matchup seeking their first victory of the season. It was the Panthers who seized the opportunity, rolling to a 68-6 win and improving to 1-1 in district play at Scarborough-Handley Field.
“We were off to a rough start this season, but the way we’re battling back is really special,” Paschal running back and middle linebacker Truman Shelton said. “These guys and I have been playing together our whole lives. We have a really special group, and we’re looking to do big things this season.”
The Panthers wasted little time taking control, scoring on their opening possessions and building momentum throughout the game.
“I was happy with how we executed,” Shelton said.
Paschal entered the contest looking to rebound from a difficult 33-23 loss to Fort Worth O.D. Wyatt. Despite posting 207 passing yards, 171 receiving yards and 167 rushing yards against the Chaparrals, the Panthers were unable to come away with the win.
“Last week was a pretty rough loss, and we just had to get back on track and get things moving in the right direction,” Paschal head coach John Killough said.
Paschal jumped out to an early lead and ended the first quarter ahead 21-6.
“We’ve gotten better every week, and we’re still getting better. We just had to put it all together,” Killough said.
Paschal’s offense exploded in the first half as multiple players found the end zone, including Noah Dillon, Truman Shelton, Zyon Wicks and Carlos Estrada.
Coming into the game, Shelton led the Panthers with an average of 176.5 rushing yards per game and 11 touchdowns. He added three more touchdowns against Poly.
Paschal had scored a combined 65 points through its first three games of the season. By halftime Thursday night, the Panthers nearly surpassed that total, taking a commanding 61-6 lead into the break.
The victory marked a significant step forward for a Paschal team that has been searching for consistency early in the season.
Meanwhile, Polytechnic head coach CJ Wilson said his team remains focused on growth despite the loss.
“Our goal is just to get better,” Wilson said. “We want them to be better men first. Everything else comes after that.”
The Panthers will look to carry their momentum into a rivalry matchup against Fort Worth Arlington Heights on Friday, Oct. 2, at Farrington Field.
“The history of that rivalry goes way back, and that’s something I take seriously, and my teammates take seriously,” Shelton said. “We get really pumped up for that game.”
Polytechnic will return to action against Trimble Tech on Thursday, Oct. 1, at Farrington Field.
