A GoFundMe has been organized to cover funeral expenses for the garbage truck driver who was killed Wednesday in a crash on U.S. 287 in south Fort Worth.
“This loss has come so suddenly, and the family is now facing the painful reality of making urgent funeral arrangements while grieving,” the fundraiser states.
According to police, the garbage truck went off the road and hit several supporting pillars of the bridge over Erath Street. The driver, Tyler Shivers, was thrown from the truck and died at the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
“Tyler was a man everyone loved, and he had a big heart for others,” his family said in the GoFundMe.
Family members identified the truck’s passenger as Ruben Saenz, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reporting.
The GoFundMe for Shivers had raised over $4,300 toward a $5,000 goal by Friday afternoon.
Shivers worked for Waste Management. “We lost a valued member of the WM family and we are cooperating with police as they investigate,” the company said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee’s family and the other passenger involved in this accident.”
