AUSTIN, Texas — A 38-year-old convicted felon from Kyle has pleaded guilty to three charges related to armed robberies in Austin, according to court documents.

Yael Williams Jr. admitted to using a firearm during robberies at a Subway restaurant and two 7-11 stores over the summer.

Williams brandished a .22 caliber revolver to threaten employees and took cash and other property by force. During the Subway robbery, he fired several shots at two bystanders, one of whom attempted to intervene, stated the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.

Williams pleaded guilty to one count of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and two counts of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. He faces a mandatory minimum of 24 years in prison, with sentencing to be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case is being investigated by the Austin Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Buie is prosecuting the case.
