Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after two women were found dead inside a north Fort Worth apartment Wednesday night, officials said.

Officers were dispatched to a welfare check at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Whistler Creek Drive about 8:50 p.m. They were told a family member had been trying to get in touch with one of the residents, but no one answered the phone or door, police said in a news release.

The relative contacted police, and a responding officer saw someone through a window who appeared to be dead, the release states. Officers then forced entry into the apartment to check on the well-being of those inside.

Police found the bodies of two adult women, according to the release. The women were related to each other, and a gun was found near the younger one.

The Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. Preliminary information indicates it was a murder-suicide, but homicide detectives will make the final determination, police said.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the public,” the release states.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will publicly identify the two women and determine their cause and manner of death.

In a separate incident on Wednesday morning, three people were found dead inside a Flower Mound home during a welfare check, authorities have said.
