Chef Jon’s Chicken and Biscuit
Brunch at Jonathon’s is a Dallas event.

Jonathon Erdeljac

Welcome to the Food & Drink weekend to-do list. Don’t panic, it’s short. Every Saturday, we’ll serve up two prime picks from Dallas’ many, many brunch and event options. Why? Because nobody has time for boring Benedict or yet another sales pitch disguised as a wine dinner. Your dollar and your taste buds deserve better.

Read on for a big ol’ bomb-ass brunch dish and a pop-up serving live wok-fried goodness.

Every year around this time, we crave fried everything. Call it the Big Tex Effect. This pick from Jonathon’s Diner is big, all right, and just about as Texas as it gets.

Dating back to 2011 when Christine and Jonathon Erdeljac opened the first location of their mom-and-pop restaurant, Chef Jon’s Chicken and Biscuit debuted as a weekly special. The plate proved so popular it was quickly added to the regular menu. Now there are two Jonathon’s Diners, and this hunka-hunka brunchin’ love has earned a cult following among Oak Cliff and Forestwood regulars alike.

Do This: Rozies Fried Rice Pop-Up at Easy Slider

Sunday, September 27, 1-5 p.m.
Reservations available via Eventbrite

On Sunday evening, the latest in Easy Slider’s pop-up series will combine dinner and a show. Chef Pierre Trevino of the roving Thai-inspired kitchen, Rozies Fried Rice, will be wok-frying live outside the Deep Ellum-adjacent joint. Plus, even more Asian-infused flavors will be available inside.

The word on the street is that you’ll be able to follow the scent of wok-fried rice with roasted mushrooms, leeks, and Fresno chili vinegar through the neighborhood to Easy Slider once Chef Pierre lights his fire. Additional one-night-only dishes will include: September rolls with Japanese sweet potato and miso kale, charcoal chicken satay, stir-fried Thai basil pork, and black soy noodles with grilled cauliflower. Margaritas from Espolòn Tequila will complement the meal.
