A 12-year-old boy was injured after he was shot while sitting inside his family’s minivan Friday night in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded Friday night to 8700 Barker Cypress Road after receiving reports of a shooting, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a social media post Saturday morning.
The child was in a minivan with his parents and three siblings while the family waited outside a business for another relative to come out, the sheriff’s office said.
While the family waited, someone inside a dark-colored sedan traveling north on Barker Cypress road fired multiple shots toward a black truck that was moving through the parking lot, according to authorities.
The family’s minivan was positioned between the two vehicles as the sedan traveled alongside the truck and shots were fired. According to Gonzalez, the 12-year-old was struck near the shoulder and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday morning.
The investigation remains ongoing and no arrests have been announced.
