Several Fort Worth-area high school football teams had big moments in Week 5.
Here are 10 thoughts from the action:
Mansfield Lake Ridge’s stunning game winner
Down a score with less than 30 seconds left, Mansfield Lake Ridge needed a miracle against Mansfield.
The Eagles were facing fourth-and-10. But quarterback DeShawn Edwards found some magic, firing a pass 38 yards to the end zone to Jayden Wilson for a stunning, game-winning touchdown. Lake Ridge then sealed a 49-45 District 11-6A play win.

In the District of Doom, every win matters. For the Eagles, it’s a promising sign that when things get tough, they’ll rise to the occasion.
Arlington Lamar defeats Arlington
In a fight for District 3-6A positioning, Arlington Lamar had an edge over Arlington, taking a 41-31 victory.
With Arlington Martin’s stunning victory over Aledo, the district title race is still semi-open, although Martin is the clear front-runner. Don’t be surprised if Aledo finds a way back into contention — the Bearcats will need some help from Lamar, Arlington or Bowie.
Arlington Bowie is still undefeated in district, but the Volunteers have some issues to address. They took a 41-35 win over Granbury — the fact that the game was close speaks volumes. Granbury lost 69-0 to Aledo in Week 4.
But Bowie, the back-to-back district champion, has a knack for finding ways to win, and District 3-6A feels like a group where anyone can lose on any given night. As of now, Martin has the momentum.
Southlake Carroll, Keller Central, Keller seize wins
Southlake Carroll got back to its familiar district play blowouts with a 49-6 victory over Haslet Eaton.
That’s a good sign for the Dragons, who played Keller Central a bit too close for comfort in Week 4. In district play for Carroll, a clear frontrunner, the main thing is making improvements week-to-week and preparing for the playoffs.
With Keller Central’s statement 47-34 win over Byron Nelson, it seems Carroll will run away with the District 4-6A crown.
Even without a district title, the Chargers deserves tons of credit. Just two years ago, Central was winless in district play. Now, they are on track to compete for a top two seed. The win over Nelson, usually an area power, was a crowning achievement for head coach Eric Vance and company to continue the Fort Worth-area’s most remarkable turnaround.
Central isn’t a team anyone can take lightly anymore. And if the Chargers keep growing at this rate, they’ll be a sneakily dangerous team come playoff time.
Keller was another District 4-6A team that recorded a huge win.
The Indians found a way to beat Boswell 54-53 in overtime. It was another impressive offensive showing for Keller (2-0 District 4-6A), a team that has a clear lane to the fourth playoff spot. Keller is averaging an absurd 52 points per game but may need to tighten up the defense to go toe-to-toe with Keller Central and Byron Nelson.
Still, it doesn’t matter how many points you give up if the offense can win shootouts. And so far, Keller has proven it has what it takes to do that.
Chisholm Trail takes down Azle
Fort Worth Chisholm Trail started district play with a bang, taking down Azle, 41-26.
It could be a monumental win as the District 3-5A Division I playoff race takes shape, as Azle was expected to be a top three team in the group. For Chisholm Trail, its another sign of rapid growth. In 2024, the Rangers had their first winning season and made their first playoff appearance.
In 2025, in Marvin Nash’s first season as head coach, Chisholm Trail once again made the playoffs, falling to Denton Ryan in the bi-district round. Keep an eye on the Rangers, as the next step in their ascent could, eventually, be winning the first playoff game in program history.
Colleyville Heritage falls to Lucas Lovejoy
A district title may not be in the cards for Colleyville Heritage this season, as the Panthers suffered a hardfought 38-35 overtime loss to Lucas Lovejoy.
The Panthers are still expected to make the playoffs, though. And, despite the loss, taking the No. 8-ranked Leopards to their limit is a very positive sign. Heritage trailed 21-10 at halftime and stormed back to make it a game.
The development of standout sophomore QB Lane Vargas as the Panther offense is worth keeping tabs on.
Arlington Seguin bounces back, Timberview wins big
After dropping its first four games, Arlington Seguin bounced back, claiming its first victory of the year with a 38-36 win over Joshua.
All of a sudden, the Cougars have playoff life, while the Owls need a few upset wins to get back into the playoff picture.
Mansfield TImberview is still the clear District 7-5A Division II front and made that very clear with a dominant 54-7 win over Midlothian Heritage. The Heritage Jaguars were supposed to be somewhat of a challenge for Timberview, but the Wolves proved they’re on an entirely different level.
All Saints responds with win over Gunter
Fort Worth All Saints is racing toward the competition.
After a hardfought loss to UIL Class 5A squad Lucas Lovejoy, the Saints took another historically successful UIL squad: Class 3A power Gunter.
This time, the Saints cruised to a 25-9 victory. Now, the attention turns to TAPPS Division II District I rivals, as the Saints aim to make the playoffs and, ultimately, compete for their third consecutive state championship.
