Austin drivers finally have the full Oak Hill Parkway.

TxDOT broke ground on Oak Hill in July 2021.

The project also expanded the corridor from two to three main lanes in each direction, added flyovers between U.S. 290 and SH 71 and replaced the old Y-interchange.

In plain terms: more lanes, fewer choke points and cleaner connections through a corridor Austin drivers have complained about for years.

“Oak Hill Parkway is a testament to the power of partnership and our shared commitment to delivering infrastructure that strengthens communities and supports economic growth,” Shawn West, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business, said in the announcement. “Working alongside TxDOT and our project partners, we have transformed a critical transportation corridor that will improve the daily travel experience for thousands of Texans for years to come.”

The rebuild also added frontage roads, U-turns, bike and pedestrian improvements, 14 miles of shared-use path and 1.5 miles of sidewalks, according to TxDOT.

The opening does not mean every orange barrel disappears overnight. TxDOT has warned drivers to expect some construction impacts through 2026, including lane shifts, closures, detours and night work.
