Downtown San Antonio has a lot to offer. In addition to its cuisine and historic landmarks, the area also has several family-friendly attractions. One of them is about to get a whole lot better.
Renovations are planned for LEGOLAND, a popular discovery center featuring rides, a 4D cinema, a theme park and other child-centric activities. According to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), construction at the site, located within Shops at Rivercenter, will begin in early November.
The report outlines $3 million in alterations, including improvements to the existing sales space and staff rooms. Roughly 3,060 square feet will be altered. Clinton Jeff, the LEGO Group’s senior communications manager, told MySA on Friday, September 25, that the plans “include the development of a new LEGO store.”
Overall, the work is related to the separation of the LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEA LIFE operations, which currently share a suite, they said.
“We’re still working through the detailed plans and timings, so we don’t have further information to share at this stage on the construction schedule, any temporary operational changes or additional updates to the attraction,” Jeff said.
The LEGOLAND Discovery Center debuted in the Alamo City in April 2019. The following month, the Sea Life Aquarium opened alongside it. At the time, General Manager Jeremy Aguillen told MySA that the goal was to “add to the diversity of hands-on experiences available” to residents and visitors and to “provide high-quality, education and interactive fun.” A regular admission ticket costs around $22, according to the company’s website.
The attraction may be crafted for kids, but parents enjoy perks too. Inside, they find a LEGO®-themed Cafe featuring beverages and snacks. Next month, adults can attend a Halloween-themed LEGO Adult Night on Friday, October 23. There, guests will compete in build challenges, meet a “real Master Model Builder” and can experience LEGO movie shorts in the 4D theater.
Construction will wrap up at the space in early April 2027, according to the TDLR report. However, filings are subject to change.
