A truck struck a bridge over Interstate 35 in South Austin early Friday morning, shutting down the highway and adding a headache for some drivers on their commute.

I-35 southbound at Onion Creek Parkway was initially closed after the bridge strike, according to the Austin Police Department. Police said shortly before 5:45 a.m. in a post on X that there were no reported injuries and crews were waiting for a safety clearance before reopening the highway.

By about 6:20 a.m., one southbound lane had been reopened, police said. Drivers were still encouraged to find an alternate route as work continued at the scene.

The incident was one of at least two crashes affecting Austin drivers Friday morning.

Austin Transportation and Public Works reported shortly after 7 a.m. that a crash on Burnet Road and Braker Lane in North Austin was blocking one southbound lane of Burnet Road, and all lanes were reopened by 8 a.m.
