Class 6A analysis

It’s used to be unthinkable that 12-time state champion Aledo would fall out of the top three. But that’s what happened this week, as Arlington Martin upset the Bearcats, ending their 136-game district win streak.

The Martin Warriors leaped three spots to No. 4. With a huge win over Byron Nelson, Keller Central moved into the top three.

Aledo fell to No. 5, and there is a thin gap between the Bearcats and Mansfield Lake Ridge (No. 6). The Eagles had an impressive win over Mansfield but given Martin’s impressive win, they shuffled down a spot.

Keller moved up, showcasing it can come out on top in a dogfight. The Indians took down Boswell in overtime, once again scoring more than 50 points.

Arlington Lamar moved up one spot with a solid win over Arlington. Despite beating Granbury, Arlington Bowie fell down two spots, as its evident the Volunteers have some issues to fix. Granbury, after losing 69-0 to Aledo, came within one score of upsetting Bowie.

Class 5A analysis

The top remains the same, despite Colleyville Heritage’s loss to Lucas Lovejoy. The Panthers are still a top tier 5A area squad, and they have one of the tougher schedules in the area.

The big winner in Class 5A was Chisholm Trail, as the Rangers took down Azle. The team has built a respectable amount of momentum and has room to keep climbing.

With a loss to Arlington Seguin, Joshua fell out of the area rankings. The Seguin Cougars, despite a 1-4 overall record, replaced the Owls.

There was no movement in the Class 4A and private school rankings.
