SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs are officially back to work.

The defending Western Conference champions hold their annual Media Day on today, marking the unofficial start of a highly anticipated 2026-27 season following the franchise’s return to the NBA Finals.

Training camp begins Tuesday.

The Spurs are coming off a 62-20 season that saw them finish second in the Western Conference before making a run through the playoffs and defeating the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games to win the West. Their season ended with a five-game loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

Victor Wembanyama enters the new season firmly established as the face of the franchise. The 22-year-old averaged 25 points and 11.5 rebounds last season, was unanimously named NBA Defensive Player of the Year and earned Western Conference Finals MVP honors.

Wembanyama also enters camp with his long-term future in San Antonio secured.

Wembanyama signed a multiyear extension back in July, a five-year deal that could exceed $250 million. Wembanyama could have signed a contract worth more than $300 million but accepted a smaller deal that gives the Spurs additional flexibility to build around their young core.

“Spurs family, I’m here to stay,” Wembanyama wrote after signing the extension. “Whatever it takes.”

Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, Julian Champagnie, Harrison Barnes and newcomer Tobias Harris are among the players scheduled to speak during today’s Media Day. Coach Mitch Johnson will also meet with reporters.

The Spurs hold their first practice Tuesday and open the preseason Oct. 8 against Atlanta at Frost Bank Center.

The regular season begins Oct. 20 with a rematch of last season’s Western Conference Finals as the Spurs host Oklahoma City.
