ARLINGTON — Two of the Rangers‘ most prominent hitters could be headed for offseason operations.
Rangers shortstop Corey Seager (elbow bone spur) and third baseman Josh Jung (hand fracture) are both potential surgery candidates, president of baseball operations Chris Young said at the team’s end of season news conference at Globe Life Field on Monday afternoon, though the team has not yet determined a course of action for either player’s recovery.
Young said that Seager has dealt with the bone spur “for a couple of months,” and that if he does require an operation, it will be a minor procedure with a full recovery expected. Seager missed time due to lower back inflammation and a concussion this season, but he played in 51 of the team’s final 53 games after he returned from the injured list for the final time, and slashed .269/.332/.472 with 10 home runs in that span.
“There’s a potential surgical route and there’s a non-surgical route,” Young said. “So we’re sorting through that.”
