The Casual Cat Café in North Richland Hills will close its doors Sept. 30 after not being able to renew the lease.

The cat adoption lounge in North Richland Hills has served the community for more than nine years and helped place over 900 cats into homes. It is now asking for the community’s help to stay open.

The café operated primarily as a rescue where all cats are available for adoption from local shelters. Visitors can also spend time with the animals without adopting. A separate section features a small café and shop selling cat-themed merchandise.

A GoFundMe account has been created to support the business during its transition and relocation as the owners searching for a stable location to continue its adoption work.

“Our little place has become more than just a business — it’s a community space for cat lovers, friends, families, and people who simply need a peaceful moment with a purring companion,” owners wrote in a GoFundMe post.

According to the post, rent increased by more than $800 per month over the past three years. The building also requires updates, but organizers said short-term one-year lease agreements made long-term investments unfeasible and threatened the stability of the organization.

The building where the café operates is currently listed on the market. Purchasing the space would allow them to stabilize monthly costs, expand into a second building on the back lot and serve more animals and visitors, the post read.

If purchasing the current building is not possible, raised funds will be used to secure another permanent location or update the existing space under an agreeable lease, according to the post.
