The Gunter Hotel, a historic 1909 property in downtown San Antonio, reopened about a year ago following a $57 million transformation, including its curated vinyl collection. Gibby Diaz, a DJ and one of the Gunter’s vinyl ambassadors, posted a photo with Anderson .Paak from the vinyl library on September 23 ahead of the singer-rapper-producer’s opening for Bruno Mars.
“Nah I didn’t meet @anderson._paak he met the #vinylambassador,” Diaz wrote. “In all reality it was an honor sir.”
The vinyl library features more than 1,000 records “handpicked by our Vinyl Ambassadors” and exclusive to guests staying at the Gunter. Covering a range of genres from 21 Savage to Al Green, guests can pick records to take to their in-room turntable. The collection includes jazz, blues, classic rock and modern picks, and vinyl ambassadors provide guests with personalized recommendations. You can even select a record ahead of time so it’s ready to play in your room upon arrival.
The Gunter calls itself a “music-inspired” hotel for its connection to music history. In 1936, legendary blues singer Robert Johnson recorded his first session in room 414 across three days. Songs like “I Believe I’ll Dust My Broom,” “Sweet Home Chicago” and “Cross Road Blues” came out of that session, according to the Gunter.
