CHARLOTTE, Texas – Authorities responded quickly to a threat against Charlotte ISD school that led to an increased law enforcement presence and the arrest of an 18-year-old male.
The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office received information from the FBI in the early morning on Monday about a possible school shooting threat targeting Charlotte ISD schools. Deputies, along with criminal investigative staff, Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and FBI personnel, worked alongside school staff to track the source of the anonymous threat. The sheriff’s office confirmed the suspect was taken into custody later that morning and is being held on a warrant related to a previous felony assault. Charges related to the new threat are pending as the investigation continues.
“Thank you to our staff for their calm, quick response and to our students for following directions,” said Dr. Toni R. Wood, superintendent of Charlotte Independent School District.
Extra deputies will continue to patrol Charlotte ISD campuses and surrounding areas as a precaution to keep students and staff safe.
“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” said Dr. Wood.
