HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police said officers shot and killed a man while they were trying to serve him a warrant for indecency with a child.

Houston police said the shooting happened at a pet training and boarding business on Yupondale Street in Spring Branch Monday at about 9:30 p.m.

Officers said the suspect was an employee at the business.

HPD Chief Noe Diaz said officers tried to talk to him, but he would not come out. They said he also tried to jump the back fence several times to get away.

Police said eventually two officers and one of their K-9s went in to try to negotiate with him.

Diaz said the suspect had a weapon and that the officers asked him to put it down several times and that he did not comply. Diaz said the officers released the K-9 on him, and they said he then made a motion to hurt the dog, and that’s when officers shot him.

Chief Diaz said the suspect was shot two or three times, was given CPR, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, authorities have not released his identity.

“He was wanted for indecency with a child with sexual contact. He had been away from our area for some time. We believe he moved into the north Texas area, and when he came back, we were able. The warrant landed on our desk, and we’re always trying to catch these real bad guys moving through the community. And unfortunately, (Monday), easy decision that he could have made, to give up and come out and face the consequences of the crime he committed. He chose a different route today, so that’s where we’re at this moment,” Diaz said.

HPD said no officers or the K-9 were hurt in the incident.

Chief Diaz said this all happened while other employees were at the business.

He also said there is surveillance video from inside the business and that the officers were wearing body-worn cameras. The body-worn camera video will be released within 30 days, per department policy.
