Nonprofit and interfaith organizations across Harris County are offering special food distributions to SNAP recipients and federal employees whose paychecks have been paused due to the federal government shutdown.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it will be able to fund partial payments to SNAP recipients for the month of November, but many families across Harris County still face uncertainty over whether they can afford enough groceries this month. More than 300,000 Harris County residents receive SNAP benefits, according to Texas Health and Human Services.Â
Residents may need to register and bring a photo ID before visiting a food distribution site.Â
