Denton Guyer at Denton Braswell
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Denton’s Carrico Stadium
Article continues below this ad
Braswell starting off 4-0 is one of the surprises of the season, and now the team faces its biggest test yet in Denton Guyer.
Let’s face it, even with Braswell’s unbeaten record, Guyer is still seen as the team to beat out of District 5-6A. But that all changes with a Braswell win this weekend. Justen Evans’ team has boasted one of the area’s top defenses in terms of yards allowed per game, but Guyer also possesses perhaps one of the most talented defensive fronts in all of Texas. Both defenses have allowed under 21 points per game.
Ish’s pick: Denton Guyer 28, Denton Braswell 14

Frisco at Anna
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Anna’s Coyote Stadium
Article continues below this ad
Anna, one of the highest-scoring offenses in the area averaging over 48 points per game, takes on a defense holding teams to less than 10 points per game in Frisco. Which one wins out in this clash of strength against strength in District 4-5A Division II?
Anna’s already knocked off both Frisco Emerson and Frisco Panther Creek this season. Running back Juelz Carter has also been one of the top rushers in the area with 745 yards, taking on a Frisco front that’s allowed just 62 rushing yards per game.
Ish’s pick: Anna 35, Frisco 20

Flower Mound at Little Elm
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Little Elm’s Lobo Stadium

Two teams off to surprising starts face off at Lobo Stadium after suffering their first losses of the season last week.
Little Elm quarterback Sash Suriya has been one of the newer faces to watch in the area as the team’s leading passer and rusher this year (837 total yards). He is backed by a defense that’s holding teams to just over 20 points per game. Flower Mound has held teams to just 21 points per game this season and puts up 431 yards of offense per game. Quarterback Baron Sampson is the name to watch with 765 passing yards and receiver Trey Brown as his top target.
Ish’s pick: Little Elm 31, Flower Mound 28

Frisco Panther Creek at Prosper Richland
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Prosper’s Children’s Health Stadium
Article continues below this ad
Prosper Richland’s first year in UIL district play has been successful thus far, but games like Friday’s against Frisco Panther Creek are ones the team will need to win if it wants to earn its first-ever playoff spot in football.
What looks to be a tough District 4-5A Division II field could see one or two playoff-worthy teams getting left out. Panther Creek quarterback Tristin Schramm already has over 1,000 yards passing and four-star wideout Sukora Cooper Jr. is already one of the best playmakers in the state as a sophomore. Richland’s combo of quarterback Brighton Jones and receiver Donovan Ross will have to match Panther Creek’s explosiveness to win this one.
Ish’s pick: Frisco Panther Creek 45, Prosper Richland 42

Highland Park at Richland
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Birdville ISD Fine Arts Athletics Complex

Highland Park hasn’t won back-to-back games yet this season and takes on one of the area’s most balanced offenses just two weeks after giving up 70 to Argyle. After holding Garland Naaman Forest to just seven points last week, could the defense limit one of the most talented running backs in Texas in Jayshon Gibson?
Buck Randall and the offense don’t need any introduction, but don’t let Richland quarterback Brett Kates get lost in the discussion either. He has the same number of passing touchdowns as Randall (10) and has yet to throw an interception.
Ish’s pick: Richland 35, Highland Park 30

Euless Trinity at South Grand Prairie
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Grand Prairie’s Gopher-Warrior Bowl
Article continues below this ad
Don’t be shocked if the result of this game ends up deciding first place in District 8-6A at the end of the season. South Grand Prairie has won three in a row since losing its season opener, and Euless Trinity bounced back last week after losing to Aledo.
Trinity’s held teams to just 140 yards per game and tout the top rushing defense in Class 6A (31.75 yards per game), while South Grand Prairie has over 256 yards per game on the ground. Running back Joshua Armendarez and quarterback Ryan Goss are the linchpins for the rushing attack with 712 yards combined.
Ish’s pick: South Grand Prairie 24, Trinity 17

Woodrow Wilson vs Hillcrest
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Dallas Franklin Stadium
Don’t overlook this game because it could end up deciding a playoff spot toward the end of the season. Both teams have already played South Oak Cliff, meaning every game is pivotal from here on out.
This features two of the top defenses in Dallas, with Hillcrest allowing just 15 points per game while Woodrow Wilson allows just over 20. Hillcrest is led by running back Jayden Harris (293 yards) and quarterback Kemen Fox (313 yards), while Woodrow quarterback Reid Kirkland leads the team with 647 passing yards and 11 touchdown passes.
Ish’s pick: Woodrow Wilson 27, Hillcrest 20

Frisco Emerson at Celina
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Celina’s Bobcat Stadium
Another big clash out of District 4-5A Division II pits two teams striving for a trophy against one another coming off wins last week.
Celina is still unbeaten to kick off the Marc Bindel era, thanks in part to running back Evan Koehne’s production on offense with 628 yards rushing and eight touchdowns, but the likes of Carter Place and Lucas Engle on defense anchor one of the area’s top units as well. Emerson quarterback Andrew Adame is one of the area’s top quarterbacks with 1,082 passing yards to his name, along with Kaden Reyes and Jason Wooden as his top targets.
Ish’s pick: Celina 35, Frisco Emerson 24

Birdville at Garland Naaman Forest
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Garland’s Williams Stadium
Birdville’s unbeaten start has been partly because of its balanced attack on offense, led by quarterback Zach Wells and running back Anthony White. But the team’s defense, led by Trae Martinez and Jarvis Grayson, has a tough task at hand this week against Naaman Forest quarterback Braylon Deal, who is the team’s leading rusher and passer. Naaman Forest is looking for a bounceback after a loss to Highland Park last week.
Ish’s pick: Birdville 42, Garland Naaman Forest 28

Nevada Community at Lovejoy
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Lovejoy’s Leopard Stadium
Lovejoy is looking more like a Todd Dodge-coached team this year than last and takes on a one-loss Nevada Community in its first year in Class 5A. Senior linebacker Kelvin Shomuyiwa is the name to know for the Community defense with 55 tackles and 13.8 tackles for loss on the year. Lovejoy’s offense has been sparked by quarterback Nixon Slaughter’s breakout as one of the area’s top passers with 1,430 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns to his name.
Ish’s pick: Lovejoy 49, Community 35

Lewisville at Frisco Wakeland
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium
Lewisville is still rolling even after the loss of quarterback Laykon Brassfield ahead of last week’s game. Safety Aiden Evans stepped in behind center and guided the offense to the tune of 167 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground. With another week taking control of the offense, expect the Sam Houston pledge to be even more effective behind center. Wakeland’s Braxton Cole is the one to watch for Chandler Isom’s team as they look to shake off last week’s loss to Guyer.
Ish’s pick: Lewisville 35, Frisco Wakeland 21

Decatur at Lake Dallas
Where: 7 p.m. Friday at Lake Dallas Falcon Stadium
This is another game that may decide the district championship when it’s all said and done. Decatur heads to Lake Dallas with an unbeaten record behind the arm of quarterback Will Chaney with over 1,200 yards passing and 18 touchdowns. Lake Dallas is allowing under 100 yards passing per game and less than 18 points per game. Can quarterback Bode McDaniel guide the Lake Dallas offense to outscore Decatur?
Ish’s pick: Decatur 31, Lake Dallas 21
