His body was dumped in a ditch and set on fire on Rigsby Avenue.
His son David Mendez says the woman police believe was involved in Manuel’s murder is in custody at the Bexar County Jail.
“It does seem like in the last week that everything is kind of falling into place where we know who did it,” David Mendez said. “We’re fairly confident who did it, and we can proceed with pressing charges.”
We’re not releasing the woman’s identity because charges have not officially been charged. His son says the family is relieved to hear police are close to getting justice for Manuel who was known as a man of God with no enemies. Mendez says the family has been struggling thinking about the horrific way his father died.
You have the thought of did he suffer,” Mendez said. “What would cause someone to do something like this? It’s been very difficult.”
Manuel is missed by his two sons and seven grandchildren who have been praying his killer be arrested. They believe Manuel is at peace, knowing he likely prayed until the very end.
“He would want them to know Jesus,” Mendez said. “My dad loved God and he loved others. He shared that with everyone. They probably heard it. Even in the moment when all of this was happening.”
At this time police believe Manuel was killed during a robbery.
