EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 24-year-old woman was arrested in connection to a high-speed chase that ended near Fabens last week.

On Monday, Sept. 28, Texas Department of Safety said troopers received a report around 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, that a Jeep SUV had been stolen at the Tiger Truck Stop near mile marker 87 on Interstate 10.

A trooper located the Jeep and conducted a traffic stop near mile marker 68 westbound. During the stop, a passenger moved into the driver’s seat and drove away, heading west on I-10.

A short time later, another DPS trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 64 traveling at more than 98 mph. The trooper attempted to stop the Jeep, but the driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit.

According to DPS, the driver continued west at a high rate of speed for several miles and drove erratically, exiting and later re-entering I-10.

A DPS trooper eventually performed a Precision Immobilization Technique, or PIT, maneuver, bringing the pursuit to an end.

Troopers conducted a high-risk felony traffic stop and took the driver into custody.

The passenger was identified as a 15-year-old girl. No injuries were reported, although EMS took the juvenile to Del Sol Medical Center for further evaluation.

Desiree Marie Castorena of El Paso was arrested on charges of evading arrest or detention and possession of a controlled substance. She was taken to the Hudspeth County Jail for booking.

The incident remains under investigation.
