LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – AEP Texas is preparing for possible outages and other weather-related issues this week.
The agency said its meteorology team is providing daily updates on expected rainfall to coordinate emergency response.
While forecasts remain optimistic, AEP said it is doubling up crews on call and available through the weekend.
Teams are also holding meetings throughout the week and weekend to stay ahead of any problems.
If you spot a downed power line, AEP said there are a few things to keep in mind.
“If you see anything down on the road, stay as far back as possible. We recommend more than 20 feet, but as far back as possible is always the way to go. Don’t get near it. If it’s near a car, do your best not to go near it until we’ve gone out there and we’ve deemed it safe for you to go back up, and the emergency services as well,” said Danny Trevino, external affairs manager, AEP Texas.
The AEP Laredo district includes Cotulla, Encinal, Zapata, Freer and Hebbronville.
