HOUSTON – Houston has a long history with the blues — and this weekend, that history is taking center stage.
The fourth annual Houston Bluesfest is getting bigger this year, moving to POST Houston after three years at East River 9. The festival will bring award-winning musicians and a new generation of blues artists together on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Among the musicians taking the stage are Jonn Del Toro Richardson and Mathias Lattin — and their connection goes way back.
Sometimes a musical connection starts with a simple invitation to sit in.
Richardson met Lattin when he was young during a jam at a Houston guitar store. He encouraged the young guitarist to keep playing and later invited him to Wednesday blues jams at The Big Easy. That mentorship helped shape Lattin’s musical journey, and today, the two musicians share the stage as artists in their own right.
You can catch that connection on Houston Life this Friday, when Richardson and Lattin bring their music to Studio B for a live performance. Watch it on KPRC 2 or stream it in the video player above.
And the blues start early this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 3, the Houston Bluesfest Showcase will bring festival musicians to Cactus Music for acoustic performances starting at 3 p.m. The showcase is free to attend.
Then on Sunday, Houston Bluesfest takes over POST Houston, with doors opening at 3 p.m. and live music from 4–8 p.m.
